There are server factors that limit the size of a population. Some obvous factors are the basic needs: food, water, shelter, clothing. However in humans these aren't necessary the limiting factors in a human society. The two most limiting factors for us is CO2 foot print, and power consumption. The limits power consumption puts on humanity depends on the standard of living. If the power consumption for everyone was at the rate of the United States the planet could only support about 2.4billion people. Since this is not how everyone lives on the planet the population continues to grow. CO2 is expected to be earth's ultimate unavoidable human population limiting factor. Since the air and global climate on earth effects everyone on the planet, if we hit this limit, it will change and dictate the living conditions of the whole planet.
This social structure life style doomsday isn't suppost to hit unless the global population tries to surpass 14billion people. The forturate thing about global industrization and the global premier education standard is that humans aren't expected to continue populating at our current rate. Sometime between 2035 and 2050 earth's industus species should stop increasing in population stopping around 9 to 10 billion. It is also predicted that the human population could go backward like Japan and the Scandinavian countries in Europe are currently doing as men and women both focus on careers and simply don't have time to stop and rear children.
In the 22nd century, human population is expected to start to increase again once the distribution of age groups re-evens out. After this point the increasing population will push man kind off the planet earth. Even though by the Halking Apocolis posies that societies end could be very near from a list of deasters. The push for spreading out in the solar system will be driven by social standards. Earth can allow everyone to live together all at a western european life style if the earths population is 3billion or less. This points out one falice of United States Empiralism. United States Empiralism believes the world will be peaceful and happy as a western democrocy based on a consuming open economy. However, this is socially and economicly impossible even though it sounds noble and romantic.
