GPSL 2015 ROBOMO/MTRAS/UTARC Balloon

GPSL 2015 High Altitude Balloon went flying to 127,242ft or 24miles above the Earth.

We had 1 cameras
  • Sony Digital Camera set to just take video
We had 3 transmitters
  • 144.39MHz APRS Arduino-Tracker
  • 146.58MHz tone on FM CW beacon
  • 433.87927MHz little 10mWatt pulse beacon, This little pulse beacon heard upto 1 mile away is how the payload was recovered.
Science we were looking for
  • Just measuring wind speeds for future referance. And to have Fun.
Forces at Work
Parachute + package 1 + camera = .25kg + .48kg + .39kg = 1.120 kg to send up
Desired fill is to 1.5 lift to load ratio therefore we tried for 1.750kg of lift
Filling went fast and we had 1.91kg on the regulator (which was .178kg) = 2.088kg actual fill
So 1.86 lift/load ratio is how we flew a 1200gr latex balloon to 24miles up.
